The Canadian Muslim Women’s Institute Inc. (CMWI) is an organization that was founded in 2006. CMWI is the first organization of its kind in Manitoba where Muslim women will be both the leaders and participants of their own organization. The goal of the Institute is to promote and empower Muslim women and their families socially, economically and spiritually, within the spirit of Islamic principles. CMWI is run by an elected Board comprised of women of diverse cultures, ages and professions, who are both immigrant and Canadian born. CMWI was set up to be a direct service delivery organization serving its members through a variety of programs.
Our Principles
• Capacity Building within the Muslim community: A pool of volunteers comprised of Muslim women helping other Muslim women and their families, will be created, thus tapping into the skills of the community.
• Youth Involvement: The recruitment of volunteers will include the youths of the Muslim women’s community.
• Community Building at the grassroots: Developing programs aimed at the specific needs of the community.
• Leadership Development: Paid salary positions to manage CMWI’s programs will offer opportunities enabling the development of female community leaders with networking/administrative skills and contacts within and outside the Muslim community.
